O’Connor Sign Planning & Design was contracted by St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin to perform a complete interior and exterior wayfinding assessment and develop a corresponding solution.  The hospital requested a “consistent visual image” and expressed interest in an updatable sign system that would provide flexibility and cost-effective changes when needed.   Universal Healthcare Symbols (Hablamos Juntos) were also incorporated into the design as an additional layer of communication at St. Vincent’s request.

As a key element of the consistent visual image, O’Connor designed a custom icon, symbolic of the grapevine story which has a deep, spiritual meaning throughout the organization.  The grapevine was used throughout the exterior and interior systems and proved to be a very attractive and effective aspect of the program.

O’Connor turned to APCO for the interior signage component of the comprehensive plan.  APCO then partnered with sign fabricator Colortech of Wisconsin in Green Bay for local support and system implementation.

APCO’s Arcadia system was selected because its curved look complemented O’Connor’s design, and combined with the Accord 15 system used for all the directional signs, provided a fully modular solution that will be easy to update for years to come.

In the end, through close collaboration and a team approach between O’Connor, APCO, and Colortech, St. Vincent’s goals and expectations were met with great results.
