Project Overview
Founded in 1960 as Houston Baptist College and then operating as Houston Baptist University for nearly five decades, the University transitioned to Houston Christian University (HCU) in 2022. This transition created the need and opportunity to overhaul an aging exterior sign program, not only to improve wayfinding on campus but also to communicate and showcase the University’s new brand and identity.
Based upon previous experience, APCO was recommended by several sources and ultimately became HCU’s partner for this signage, wayfinding and branding endeavor.
In less than ten months, working closely with the team at HCU, APCO successfully designed, planned, fabricated and installed close to 100 exterior signs, ranging from a refacing of the existing gateway ID’s to newly fabricated Vehicular Directionals, Building ID’s, Campus Maps, Pedestrian Directionals and Parking Lot ID’s.
Not only creating a fresh look for the recently rebranded University, the new sign program provides comprehensive identification and wayfinding throughout the campus. In addition, the signs feature complete modularity to easily accommodate future changes and expansion as the University continues to grow.
