The importance of a UL Label...
Unfortunately, within the sign industry, it is quite common to encounter electrical products that are not UL Listed.
Many manufacturers evade this issue by using the claim that their products use only UL Listed components. Dont be fooled by this statement, for manufacturing using UL Listed parts has nothing to do with whether the sign product itself qualifies as an Underwriters Laboratory approved assembly.
Why is this so important? There are many reasons, not the least of which is the potential liability associated with products that may fail to meet strict Underwriters Laboratory Requirements for Safe Operation. Should the product you select, whether you are an architect, designer, contractor or user, fall short of safety standards, there is a good possibility you will share in the liability in the event of an accident.
Protect yourself and all those who come in contact with electrical products in or around your facility simply by insisting the product you purchase bear a unique UL Label, applied only by a qualified manufacturer. Ask this question of your sign manufacturer or supplier: Is the product you are selling me UL Listed? If the answer is no, it is a good idea to look elsewhere. And if you have any doubt whatsoever about the validity of their claim, ask for certified confirmation from the manufacturer.
All electrical products manufactured by APCO are certified under United Laboratories Article 48 for Electric Signs, for use in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.
