Corporation for Olympic
Development in Atlanta
Atlanta, Georgia
The Corporation for Olympic Development recognized the importance of signs and wayfinding systems to those visiting our city during the 1996 Games. They are responsible for developing a system of 47 detailed maps, located throughout the Olympic Ring. Each pedestrian-oriented sign includes a story covering an important aspect of its location's history. Jones-Worley developed the 3-by-6-foot posters in concert with the Atlanta History Center. The 9-foot poster holders were designed by Studio Grafika, incorporating APCO's SignPanel Universal concept. Both historical and map posters are easy to update.
Twenty-eight directional pylons, pointing to Atlanta landmarks complete the system. Studio Grafika worked with APCO to create a temporary panel for the pylons depicting sport pictograms that direct Olympic visitors to events.
APCO products are clearly part of the Olympic legacy. Both citizens and visitors will enjoy reading little known facts about our rich and varied history in the coming years. And after all, visitors aren't the only ones who need help finding their way around Atlanta.
